Kolkata Thunderbolts's first match in PVL

Ashwal Rai and Co. will take on the Calicut Heroes in their Prime Volleyball League opener

Matchday 3 of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League (PVL) sees the much-anticipated debut of the Kolkata Thunderbolts as they square off against the Calicut Heroes in Hyderabad. The Telegraph My Kolkata is the digital media partner of the Kolkata franchise.

Thunderbolts start as slight favourites, mainly due to the presence of Indian internationals Vinit Kumar Choudhary and captain Ashwal Rai. Watch out also for the American duo of Matthew August and Ian Sutterfield, whose performances will be key to the Thunderbolts's success. Olympic Gold medalist David Lee should be the centre of attention for the Calicut Heroes, who also boast a strong attack with the likes of Aaron Koubi. Skipper Jerome Vinith, operating just behind the attack, could also play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the match.
