Kolkata Thunderbolts look to edge closer to the PVL semi-finals

The Hyderabad Black Hawks, fresh off a commanding win, are up next

We are halfway through the round-robin stage of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League (PVL) and the Kolkata Thunderbolts, partnered by The Telegraph My Kolkata, are sitting pretty at the top of the table with a perfect record of three wins out of three.

In what could be their toughest challenge yet, the Thunderbolts face the Black Hawks on Tuesday following a history-making match on Sunday evening when the Black Hawks became the first PVL side to win all five sets of a match. Led by an irrepressible S.V. Guru Prasanth, the Black Hawks proved unplayable against the Chennai Blitz, with Vipul Kumar linking up brilliantly with Prasanth.

The Thunderbolts, barring a casual third set, were clinical against the Bengaluru Torpedoes in their last outing and will take confidence from their improved service and blocking, both of which will have to be impeccable to overturn the Black Hawks. Captain Ashwal Rai will be key as always, but it is the resurgent form of Vinit Kumar that might make all the difference, taking the Thunderbolts one step closer to a spot in the semi-finals.
