Joachim Trier’s dark comedy The Worst Person in the World stunned viewers and critics last year. It also won big at the festival circuit and scored two Oscar nods. It’s the third film in the Trier’s Oslo Trilogy, following Reprise (2006) and Oslo, August 31st (2011). The trilogy centres around notions of failure, unfulfillment and troubled heroes. “They are all quite self-doubting people. There’s a sense of ambition or failed ambition, and insecurity about how to create purpose and meaning in their lives while feeling stressed by a tremendous sense of expectation,” Trier said recently.
Watch the director break down the three films that are hailed as masterpieces.
