Colin Firth stars in this year’s biggest true-crime outing

Colin Firth’s next will see him play Michael Peterson, a successful crime novelist who was convicted for the murder of his wife, Kathleen. The story of Kathleen Peterson’s death, which has already been the subject of quite a few projects, is getting the prestige drama treatment in HBO Max‘s The Staircase, scheduled to release on May 5. 

The mini-series directed by Antonio Campos Also stars Toni Collette, Michael Stuhlbarg, Juliette Binoche, Dane DeHaan and Olivia DeJonge. "I felt like I knew everything about this guy by the end because everything had come out about him, but at the same time, I still didn’t know who he was,” Campos said recently. The Staircase will release its first three episodes on May 5, and one episode a week through June 9.
