Thirty-years since India’s first Miss Universe — a daughter pens a note for her mom

Renee Sen, Sushmita Sen’s elder daughter, has posted a photo of Sushmita from Miss Universe contest in 1994

           

It was 30-years ago on May 21, 1994 that an 18-year-old woman with a dazzling smile and towering personality won the Miss Universe beauty pageant. It was India’s first, and Sushmita Sen made history. Thirty years later, Sushmita’s elder daughter Renee has celebrated the momentous day with a special note for her mother, and a throwback photo. “Thirty years ago, today, this marvellous young woman, at the tender age of 18, that I am so grateful is my mother created history as India’s first Miss Universe ♥️,” wrote Renee on Instagram.

 “...You continue to live your life with utmost grace, compassion and love that I am yet to see in another human being,...” Renee further wrote. A daughter looking up to her mother with pride and drawing inspiration is so powerful and heartwarming. 

Sushmita also posted on Instagram, marking the special occasion, and giving a shout out to her daughter. “This little girl, who I met in an orphanage, taught an 18 yr old me, life’s most innocent yet profound lessons, ones that I live by to this day” 🤗❤️💋 she wrote. Both mother and daughter signed off with Dugga Dugga. See the post here.
