With Rahul Dravid having coached his last game for India during T20 World Cup finals, speculations had been rife about who will be at the helm of the Indian Cricket Team. On Tuesday evening, BCCI finally confirmed that Gautam Gambhir will be taking over where Dravid left off — as the Head Coach of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team. Gambhir aka Kolkata Knight Riders’ beloved GG, led the Knights to glory winning them their third IPL trophy in 2024. Since then, he has been the favourite to take over from The Wall, since Dravid announced earlier this year that the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies would be his last innings as the team’s coach.

Making the official announcement on social media, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, tweeted, “Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward…”

Gambhir himself took to social media, sharing a photo of the Indian tricolour, and wrote, “I’m honoured to be back, albeit wearing a different hat. But my goal is the same as it has always been, to make every Indian proud. The men in blue shoulder the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians and I will do everything in my power to make these dreams come true!”

My Kolkata wishes the new head coach and the Indian team the very best as the baton passes from Dravid to Gambhir and a new era of Indian men’s cricket begins.
