‘All the Right Reasons’ by Bethany Mangle
The perfect read to cosy up with, this Valentine’s Day

If you’re tired of watching the same old rom-coms on Netflix and are on the lookout for a fresh new approach to this all-time favourite genre, Bethany Mangle’s latest book might just be what you need. With a story that unfolds against the backdrop of a reality dating show for single parents, the author does a commendable job balancing the classic tropes of a rom-com while giving it a fun, fresh spin.
The protagonist of the book is Cara, who after learning that her father has cheated on her mother with a woman she utterly dislikes, posts a rant about it online. The rant unexpectedly goes viral, catching the attention of the producers of a reality dating show, who then whisk Cara and her mom away to star in this show. While Cara does not quite fit in with the people there, she realises that she is not the only one – Connor, the son of another contestant on the show feels the same way, and despite her best efforts at resisting it, Cara finds herself inexplicably drawn to Connor. As she tries to keep her emotions concealed and puts on a straight face in front of the cameras, it remains to be seen whether Connor senses what is happening, and when he does – how will that change the trajectory of the show, and their lives?
Cheesy, romantic and peppered with humorous moments, All the Right Reasons is the ideal book for Valentine’s day (for all the right reasons!).
