Sunday Classics: ‘You Will Never Work in Television Again’ by The Smile
Radiohead is back with… a new band?

Radiohead frontman Thom Yoke and the band’s lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood have released the debut single from their new side project, The Smile. The single titled You Will Never Work in Television Again was produced by Nigel Godrich and features Sons of Kemet’s Tom Skinner on drums. The single was first aired during the group’s secret show at last year’s Glastonbury event, Live at Worthy Farm.
The Smile’s sound pares down the band’s classic rock sensibilities to highlight their vintage influences. The band takes its name from a Ted Hughes poem of the same name. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are called ‘The Smile.’ Not the smile as in ‘ahh!’, more ‘The Smile’ as in, the guy who lies to you every day….” Yorke told his Glastonbury audiences. The Smile is scheduled to play three consecutive, intimate concerts in London between January 29-30, which will also be broadcast globally via live streams.
