Prithibi’s ‘Shohorer Gaan’ captures the eternal and the sublime
The song takes listeners on an emotional journey with Kolkata as the backdrop

Prithibi, one of the oldest alternative Bengali rock bands of Kolkata, surprised its fans with its festive release, Shohorer Gaan. The music video, with its relatable storyline, brings forth the various nuances and shades of the mother-daughter relationship, picturised on the backdrop of Kolkata.
It is written, sung, directed and composed by frontman Koushik Chakraborty and the music arrangement is by the band — now comprising Arunangshu Bagchi and Debangshu Bhattacharjee on guitar, Deep Ghosh on bass, Deepayan Maitra in keyboard and Aniruddha Mondal in drums. The simple yet heart-wrenching lyrics take one on an emotional journey of dreams, muffled cries and much more. The picturisation melds perfectly with the lyrics as Kolkata turns into a living, breathing character.
Featuring Samarpita Chanda, Dwipannita Sinha and Aritra Mukherjee, the song was originally penned by Koushik in 2009 for a film, which did not materialise.
Shohorer Gaan has received more than 12,000 views on YouTube since it’s official release on October 5.
