Global Citizen Live: ‘Jenny from the Block’ by JLo

Jenifer Lopez’s hit 2002 single, Jenny from the Block, is nothing short of iconic. The lead single of JLo’s third studio album, featuring rappers Jadakiss and Styles, ranked #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts in 2002. 

The 52-year-old performer performed the song at the Global Citizen Live festival in New York. Global Citizen Live is a one-day global event to create awareness and raise funds for the worldwide hunger crisis, climate needs in developing countries and COVID-19 vaccination around the world. 

“I couldn’t go home without doing this one,” said JLo, and we couldn’t agree more! Her performance, packed with old-school razzle-dazzle and off-the-charts energy, left everyone in awe.

The R&B track is a shout out to the hip-hop singer’s humble beginnings with lyrics that talk about her staying true to her roots, regardless of her fame. It remains a crowd favourite even in 2021, especially if you’re looking for an upbeat tune to kick off a dance battle!
