Dal Makhni Bunny Chow at Zobet

South African fast food infused with North Indian flavours

Cheese-topped 'dal makhni' and fluffy bread—what more could someone want from a hearty meal? Traditionally, bunny chow is a South African staple where a loaf of bread is hollowed out and filled with a stew. Zobet’s 'Dal Makhni' Bunny Chow features a handmade bun made in-house, which is hollowed out and filled with 'dal makhni'. The 'dal' is cooked with aromatics like ginger and garlic along with a subtly sweet tomato puree. 

The dal is tempered with dried methi leaves which add a depth of flavour, followed by a dollop of butter and cream. The showstopper of the dish is the unique cheese sauce made with yellow and white cheddar, and mozzarella which is poured all over the dal once it’s on the bun. Not only does this dish taste great but it's also really shareable. Just tear a piece of bread, dip it in the cheesy dal and get your hands messy!
