Tired of the same old toor dal? Legend has it that once Prince Murad, the son of Shah Jahan, instructed his cooks to prepare a delicious alternative, thus giving rise to this dish. Try Saransh Goila’s rendition of the Dal Muradabadi recipe and savour this rich and flavourful dal at home now. The star ingredient of this dish, however, is moong dal, which is soaked for two hours. After soaking, add the dal to a pressure cooker with salt and hing. Cook until it achieves a velvety texture.

Dry roast some jeera and grind it into a powder. Similarly, roast and crush some red chillies. When cooking the dal in a pan, add the jeera, chillies, and other ingredients. Once well cooked, serve the dal with lime, chutney, and papdi to transform it into a chaat-like dish. Dal Muradabadi is a light, healthy and a delish dish that is sure to please your taste buds.
