Take a quick virtual tour of India’s first post office café in Kolkata

Ever been bored out of your wits while waiting to courier your parcel? The General Post Office in central Kolkata has thought about you. In March, this year, the GPO became the first post office in India to launch a café on its premises to allow visitors to courier parcels while lounging over a fresh cup of coffee.

The entrance to Siuli the Parcel Café. The idea for an in-house café was conceived last year by the postal department to boost the parcel business.

With brightly coloured wooden furniture and leather sofas that can seat up to 34 people at once, the café is themed on the postal heritage of India.

The vivid decor of the place can easily charm its patrons.

The café also houses a gift shop and curio shop. Philatelic ancillaries like mugs, coasters, cushions and brass plates, all bearing prints of appropriate stamps are available year-round.

One can also enjoy a fresh scoop of ice cream or snack on a range of chocolate bars while visiting the café.

The café remains open from 10am to 7pm.

From T-shirts to philately albums, the gift shop offers a range of products.
