A 40-year-old woman from Amdanga in North 24-Parganas, who had tested positive for Covid, died at the Infectious Diseases (ID) Hospital in Beleghata on Saturday.
She was on ventilation for the past few days.
This is the second Covid death in less than a week in the state. The last death was reported on May 29.
“The woman was referred to ID Hospital on May 2 by a private nursing home where she was admitted,” said Anima Halder, principal of Infectious Diseases and Beleghata General Hospital. “We have no information about her immunisation status.”
Senior doctors, who have been treating the woman at the hospital, said she was a patient of uncontrolled diabetes and had Covid pneumonia and sepsis. The patient was on ventilation for around 11 days at the nursing home and tested positive for Covid on June 2.
“The co-morbidities possibly made the recovery from Covid challenging for the patient,” said a doctor.
Three more Covid patients are now admitted at the Beleghata facility.
Doctors advised the use of masks in crowded places and maintaining Covid hygiene.
