The state transport department on Monday asked private bus and minibus operators to shift from the Babughat terminus to the one at Santragachi in Howrah.
An order issued by the secretary of the regional transport authority said the shifting would have to be completed in 14 days.
The order comes within weeks of Calcutta High Court seeking an affidavit from the state government on the shifting of the bus terminus from Esplanade. The matter will be heard again on April 25.
“Santragachi is about 10km from the bus terminus at Esplanade. It cannot be a viable alternative given the prevailing price of diesel,” said the owner of a private bus on route 78.
The state government had spent close to Rs 10.5 crore to build the bus terminus in Santragachi in 2015.
