Rain nags Kolkata, sparks building collapse

Jorabagan, 8am. Fire brigade and National Disaster Response Force personnel rescue members of two families trapped after a dilapidated building collapsed on Ahiritola Lane in north Kolkata on Wednesday morning, when the city woke up to yet another day of dark clouds and rain. The cyclonic system that was tipped to trigger heavy showers arrived with howling winds on Tuesday evening, although the downpour did not really get heavy at night

The India Meteorological Department's national weather forecast and bulletin at 8am said a well marked low pressure area “lies over central parts of Gangetic West Bengal and the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels”
