His family have filed a police complaint with Maniktala police station. They have named some of the friends who had gone to the picnic with Prasad near a fishery in Salt Lake.

Police have detained five for interrogation.

Prasad was a truck driver, the police said.

Preliminary inquiry has revealed that the death was the outcome of a drunken brawl.

“It appears that the man and his friends were intoxicated and had picked up a fight. One of them stabbed the victim multiple times,” said an officer.

Some of them dropped Prasad near his home, he said.
