A man had allegedly strangled his estranged wife inside an abandoned house near the Kolkata Leather Complex on Basanti Highway, police said following the arrest of Raju Laskar on Monday.
Anita Howladar’s body was recovered on December 2 after a stench led local residents to inform the cops.
Investigators said Laskar confessed to killing Anita using her dupatta on November 29 when she turned up to meet him responding to his request for a meeting. The murder came to light 72 hours after she was killed.
The cops scanned the CCTV footage of the area and found Anita entering through gate No. 1 of the leather complex while speaking to someone on her phone. “We zeroed in on Anita after scanning nearly 1,500 calls that were received in the area on that day,” said a senior officer.
