Kolkata Traffic Police has posted a programme that might affect the city traffic on Tuesday (11.4.2023)
- 12 noon to 5pm: A sit-in protest at 297, APC Road (near IQRA Sanitation)
- 12.30pm: Rally from the main gate of College Square on College Street and move along College Street, Nirmal Chandra Street, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, SN Banerjee Road and Dorina crossing and will finally terminate at Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Esplanade
- 3pm: A peace procession from Presidency University will move along College Street, Bidhan Sarani, Hedua Park, Maniktala Main Road, Vivekananda Road, Maniktala crossing and APC Road and terminate at Rajabazar crossing on APC Road
- 6pm: A rally will start from 39B, Beltala Road in front of Beltala Motor Vehicles to Tridhara More
- 9pm: Procession from 61, Canning Street, to 35, Rabindra Sarani (Gol Kothi) and move along Canning Street, Ezra Street, Rabindra Sarani.
A sizzling Bengali New Year
The maximum temperature in Kolkata rose to 37.4 degrees Celsius on Monday, two notches above normal. The mercury is tipped to touch the 40-degree mark before Poila Boisakh, the Met office said in a bulletin.
“The maximum temperature is likely to rise gradually by 2-3 degrees Celsius during April 10 to 15,” the bulletin said. “The maximum temperature across the stations of Gangetic Bengal is above normal, by one to three degrees. A rise of around two to three degrees is likely over the next five days. This spell of heat will continue till at least April 15,” said Sanjib Bandyopadhyay, deputy director-general of the India Meteorological Department, Kolkata.
