IIT Kharagpur, which is conducting this year’s JEE Advanced, to be held on October 3, has asked candidates to adhere to the entry time that will be communicated to them a day before the exam via text messages.

The move is aimed at avoiding crowding as a precaution against Covid.

An advisory issued by the IIT says lab/hall/room numbers will not be displayed outside the test centres to prevent gatherings, which public health experts are urging people to avoid.

The candidates will know the details when they will get the barcode on the admit cards scanned by the barcode reader, which will be “available at the entry point”.

The test centre staff will guide the candidates to their respective rooms after the scanning.

The exam is held to screen candidates for admission to the BTech programmes at the IITs.

An official at IIT Kharagpur said they had taken a slew of measures to avoid crowding at the exam centres, as a precaution against Covid.

“The candidates will be split into groups and will be allotted respective time slots for entry through text messages,” he said. Paper-1 will be held from 9am to noon and Paper-2 from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.
