Participants in a heritage walk at the Port Trust and Maritime Museum on Strand Road in central Calcutta on Saturday afternoon. The other stops were the Fairlie Place headquarters of Eastern Railway and the Reserve Bank of India museum on Council House Street.
The walkers comprised serving and retired officials of public sector units. Heritage walks used to be popular in winter in Calcutta. But the pandemic halted the trend. “The old colonial premises are a treasure trove of history. This belt was once an industrial hot-spot. We hope the walk would help create awareness and also boost tourism,” said Samrat Chowdhury, who runs an organisation that works for heritage awareness and conservation. Picture by Sanat Kr Sinha
