Two police personnel at Golf Green police station who had been “closed” after allegations of torture surfaced against them following the death of a young man last week, have been suspended from duty, senior officers at Lalbazar said.
A civic volunteer whose name has also emerged in the torture allegations has been demobilised, the officer said. Dipankar Saha, a resident of Azadgarh, had started complaining of some health problems on Thursday night and was admitted to MR Bangur Superspeciality Hospital, where he died early on Friday, leading to the family’s allegations against the police.
Saha was taken to Golf Green police station on July 31 and released after 30 minutes.
Allegations had surfaced that the accused cops had physically tortured Saha in an abandoned building after which he fell ill.
