Bengal Covid tests go up, new cases not so much

A total of 13 people died of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, adding on to the 18,447 fatalities officially recorded till August 30

West Bengal reported 546 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours, according to the state government figures released on Tuesday evening.

A total of 13 people died of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, adding to the 18,447 fatalities officially recorded till August 30.

A total of 33,118 samples were tested across the state — up from 27,503 samples tested on Monday — according to the release of the West Bengal department of health and family welfare, which translates to a positivity rate of 1.65 per cent. On Monday that rate was at 1.85 per cent.

The total number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the state is now 15,48,604.

A total of 15,21,342 Covid-19 patients had been discharged from hospital till August 30, and in the last 24 hours another 640 novel coronavirus patients were discharged.

The total number of active Covid-19 cases as on Aug 30 was 8,815, and which came down by 107.

The discharge rate from Covid-19 in the state is at 98.24 per cent. The fatality rate is unchanged at 1.19 per cent.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee's government has said it would consider reopening schools gradually after Durga Puja provided the Covid situation remained under control.
