A 17-year-old resident of Thakurpukur who has been missing for three months was found dead inside an abandoned building near his home on Sunday morning.
Police said the boy’s decomposed body was found hanging from a hook in the ceiling.
“The preliminary post-mortem report suggests he committed suicide,” an officer at the city police headquarters in Lalbazar said.
The officer said the teenager went missing around three months ago. His family lodged a missing diary with Thakurpukur police station and the missing persons squad in Lalbazar.
“A search was conducted but he was not found anywhere. He had left home with a towel saying he was going to take a bath in a local pond. He did not return after that,” said the officer.
The abandoned building where the body was found on Sunday is uninhabitable, the police said.
“Today, a person, alerted by a stench, went to the building and found the body. The body was decomposed. A part of it was hanging and the other portion was lying on the floor,” said an officer.
