Apple has published its first App Store Transparency Report. The company had agreed to offer developers meaningful statistics about the app review process, including the number of apps that were rejected and the number of apps removed from the App Store. In 2022, there were 1,783,232 apps on the App Store, with 6,101,913 total app submissions received and 1,679,694 apps rejected for multiple reasons, like safety, performance, design, and legal.
“Our App Store Transparency Report provides data about how we operate the App Store in all 175 countries and regions where it’s available,” says the report.
Another interesting section is ‘government takedown demands’, the total of which was 1,474 in 2022. In mainland China, Apple highlights that 1,276 game apps were removed due to a lack of a legally mandated license that the developers didn’t provide. Perhaps the most interesting figure is that Apple customers had an average weekly download of apps at 747,873,877 in 2022, and the App Store saw 656,739,889 average weekly visitors in the same timeframe. That’s a massive figure. “At Apple, we’re committed to creating a great experience for customers and developers — and we review every app for compliance with our App Store Review Guidelines to uphold the highest privacy, security, and content standards,” Apple has said.
