Sergio Gor, US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy to South and Central Asia, in Kolkata on Wednesday for the first time since assuming office. During his short visit to the City of Joy, the ambassador visited the Missionaries of Charity and Victoria Memorial Hall.

Sharing glimpses of his tour on X, Gor wrote, “Hello Kolkata! Honored to visit the Missionaries of Charity, pray with the Sisters, and reflect on the legacy of Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa’s Christian faith and life of service continue to inspire millions of people across continents.”

Gor, who held office as the US Ambassador to India on January 14, 2026, highlighted the significance of diplomatic presence in the city through his X post. “The US Consulate, America's second-oldest diplomatic post in the world, plays a vital role in strengthening ties across India, including the growing east and northeast. Glad to engage with our Consulate community in Kolkata and get to know the City of Joy,” he wrote.

Later in the day, along with Kathy Giles-Diaz, US Consul General in Kolkata, Gor visited Victoria Memorial Hall. The delegation explored the museum galleries.

Gor was declared by the US Senate as Ambassador to India in October 2025. He officially took charge in January this year.
