The notes and harmonies of songs starting from Bollywood’s Hamma hamma, to Rabindra Sangeet, Bangla band songs to pieces by Lalon, everything was heard at the third season of the Mountain Music Festival, hosted to mark 10 years of The Dreamers, the brainchild of Sudipta Chanda. The Dreamers is a company that takes unique musical initiatives, like organising the Kolkata Street Music Festival and the Mountain Music Festival, and supports budding musicians by providing them a platform to host unique musicals of sorts.
Season three of the Mountain Music Festival took place on April 13 amid the greens of Fagu, Gorubathan, on the banks of the river Chel in North Bengal. One could hear soulful symphonies of one of Tagore’s favourite instruments, the esraj, along with other genres. The melodies marked a perfect celebration of The Dreamers.
Shouvik Mukherjee, Aritra Sunny Mukherjee, Amlan Chattopadhyay, Madhurjo Mukherjee, Gourab Hatui, Ayaan Chakraborty, Sourojyoti Chatterjee, Raktim Banerjee and Palash Bhattacharya were some of the performers. They pulled off instrumental performances with the guitar, tabla, esraj, sitar, and darbuka along with songs that were sung.
