Glimpses from a fun-filled evening at Deluge’22 — ICFAI Freshers’

A freshers’ welcome sets the mood for the upcoming academic year and for ICFAI Business School it was no different. Deluge’22 — ICFAI Business School Freshers’ Welcome, in association with The Telegraph, was a happy evening for the students and faculty of the institution that reflected a mood of positivity and unity. Hosted at The Stadel hotel on July 15, by the teachers and students of IBS, the event welcomed the incoming batch of the institution through various competitions, like music, dance and ramp walk that also helped the students and teachers bond. The amount of excitement and good cheer that echoed throughout the hall from each student’s voice and expressions, reflected their joy of getting back to college after the pandemic hiatus. “We were all looking forward to this evening as it is finally taking place after two years. This event will help our students imbibe organisational and delegatory skills to mould their personality further. It prepares them for the future by enabling them to apply these skills in the real world,” said Dr Ajay Pathak, senior director, IBS.

After competing as teams in three challenging rounds, organised by the Analytics and Sports club, the Social Responsibility club and the Marketing and Finance club, the runners-up and winning teams were chosen for the Students of the Year category. (L-R with certificates in hand) Sayani Roy, Kahini Basu Roy, Aheri Bhattacharya, Soumik Mitra and Biswajit Chandra Dey, were the members of the winning team. “Our group coordinated well in every round. It was our teamwork that made this dream come true for us. It was the collective effort which helped us to get the first place in majority of the rounds,” said the students, who received their certificates from faculty members Sujay Kumar Dhar (centre) and Satyaki Kumar Ray (third from right).

All the contestants had to send a dance video to the judges after which the top three finalists were selected to perform on stage. Sayani Roy, winner of the competition, received the award from faculty member Sharbari Saha. “I am professionally trained in Bharatanatyam and have been dancing since the last 12 years. Dancing has always been my passion and I was excited to perform at IBS,” said Sayani.

Jaya Ojha Saha (left) and Yuvraj Mazumder, Miss and Mr IBS of Deluge’22, received their awards from Ajay Pathak, senior director of IBS and Durga Sinha, director, corporate relations. Just like the previous rounds, the participants for the ramp walk had to compete in an online round as well. They were judged on the basis of their confidence, their walk and personal style. The finalists participated in a ramp walk and a question-answer round that decided the winners. “IBS has a very supportive environment. In terms of the ramp walk, the overall ambience helped my confidence to bloom further,” said Jaya Ojha Saha. Yuvraj Mazumder said, “My approach was to be prepared at the back of my head and then act as per the situation. I wanted to be authentic and give it my 100 per cent. I am looking forward to campus life a lot.”

After two preliminary rounds, there were three finalists who finally made it to the final round. Yuvraj Mazumder, the winner, sang the song Shukran allah from the movie Kurbaan.  “I inherited singing from my family and never took any formal training for it. I love listening to songs that I can resonate with,”said Yuvraj.

“I am glad to see how much effort the seniors have put into this event and the ramp walk was my favourite,” said Shubham Hisaria,a first-year student.

“I am looking forward to attending offline classes, which is my prime source of motivation for the upcoming academic year,” said Garima Bagaria, a first-year student, who turned up pretty in a slit dress for the freshers day.

“The crowd present here today is so diverse that everyone has something different to add to the event in terms of the energy and the excitement. The seniors have organised Deluge very efficiently,” said Jazzleen Kaur, a first-year student, who chose the classic black for the freshers’ party.
