Calcutta: Bharath Singh trained- Ramiel (Trevor Patel-up) claimed the 1xbet Grand Annual Mile, the feature event here in Wednesday’s card. The 6/1 shot was given a peach of a ride by Trevor  — coming from way off the pace to easily collar the piping hot favourite Super Stride (Suraj Narredu) in the final 150m, to score an impressive win. The margin of victory could have been bigger than the official verdict of a length and three quarters, had the Win Legend chestnut not drifted out. The first timer Abnegator (Neeraj Rawal) finished third after leading till the turn.
Earlier in the day, Trevor was seen at his brilliant best astride Akshay Doctor-trained, Cape Tanaros, in the 1xbet Indian Gold Vase over 1400 metres. The Western Aristrocrat’s son was ridden well off the pace but covered good ground in the home straight. He hasn’t done anything wrong this season  — reeling off five wins in six starts, including a respectable second to the champion sprinter Agnostic. The favourite in the race, The Protector (Imran Chisty), once again met one better, while the top weighted Awesome One finished a tame third.
The opening event witnessed, B. Mahesh trained-Agostino Carracci (app P.Tejeshwar-up) easily collaring the front runners  —  Yazh (Hindu Singh) and Dr Doom (Chisty), passing the distance-post, for a going away victory. The course-favourite, Mezcal (Trevor Patel) could only finish third behind Dr Doom. Mezcal went all over the course, in the stretch-run, despite being in a handy position and deserves another chance.
The 1xbet Online Sports Handicap over 1200m, witnessed the first dead-heat of the season. A pair of unfancied  N. Ravinder Singh’s Hashtag (app Tejeshwar) and Vikash Jaiswal-trained, Mount Reno (app Hasib Alam), flashed past the post almost abreast, Swift Lady (Chisty), who was in the mid-bunch, finished an impressive third and this one is for your notebook.
In the 1xbet 7 Furlong Handicap, another open betting affair, saw Vijay Singh trained-Atlantica (Suraj) scoring easily form a handy second berth till the final turn over a quietly fancied Dubai Star (Nikhil Naidu). The 7/4 favourite, Randoph made most of the running; until passed by the winner. Free Spirited (Hindu Singh), a stable-mate of the winner finished a good third.
In the concluding event, 1,600m 1xbet Virtual Sports Handicap, Multistarrer (Chisty), trainer Rutherford Alford’s recent import from Mumbai, had impressed in a mock race two weeks ago. The horse was backed down from 4s to 2s during race time. But Chisty rode a confident race as he drove out the six-year-old round the final turn to go past the long time leader, Only You (Suraj Narredu) – an even-money favourite -- to score by four long lengths.
Not a single favourite delivered the goods in the afternoon’s six event card but jockeys Trevor Patel and Tejeshwar had a profitable day, notching up a double a piece.
