Withdrawals and upsets had taken centre stage at the May 19 Ayr and Yarmouth meetings. But today’s meetings at Lingfield and Wolverhampton offered enough for the race lovers to forget all that went down yesterday. To cut a long story short, a double delight replaced a double whammy.

Race freaks who kept their eyes peeled for the Lingfield and Wolverhampton races did get a bang for their buck, except for in select few races where unexpected contenders ended up grabbing the limelight.

Withdrawals did become a topic of discussion, but they didn’t stir up a hornet’s nest like yesterday in Yarmouth, where overnight rain had played spoilsport.

At Lingfield, it was the Fanny Norton double -- Lucky Draw flew past the finish line in the Witheford Barrier Trials At Lingfield Park Fillies' Handicap and then with Priscilla’s Wish in the Sky Sports Racing HD Virgin 535 Handicap, a division II race.

At Wolverhampton, jockey Alistair Rawilinson also  made the headlines with a double. His first win came in the Stay At The Wolverhampton Holiday Inn Handicap with Castle Quarter and the second one in the EBC Group - Your Workplace Technology Partner Handicap with Decision Maker.
