Calcutta: Aashay Doctor trained seven-year-old Psychic Force (Neeraj Rawal-up) upstaged the piping hot favourite Redoubtable in the Sana Cup, here, on Thursday.
Rawal kept Psychic Force second as the favourite broke away soon after the start into a seven-length lead in a field of four with Consigilori and Areca Legend being outpaced. It looked like a procession; until well into the straight when Redoubtable began to tire and drift out alarmingly, allowing Neeraj to drive the 6/1 chance through the rails to nail the favourite in the last 50meters.
The victory Psychic Force gave the young trainer a fine treble on the day, while jockeys A. Sandesh and Neeraj Rawal also scored a double.
The afternoon began with Stockbridge setting the ball rolling for Aashay and Neeraj with an effortless victory, over D Knight Mysore, in the 1,600m Skyexch Handicap .
Livisilia (A.Ashhad.Asbar) defied the penalty incurred on her last easy victory to score an encore over unfancied duo of Immeasurable and Full Volume, while the fancied runners Whistle Blower and Exotique faded out to finish fourth and last respectively in a field of five, lined up for the 1,400m Exchangemarket.com Handicap.
Bharath Singh trained Randolph simply trounced opposition in the 1400m Brown Wolf Handicap, Sandesh rode a copybook race on the 3/1 shot as the longtime leader Swift Lady and the 7/4 favourite Sea Dragon fizzled out before the race came to a boil, Act of Magic caught the eye while finishing second.
Dr Doom (S.Saqlain) justified the favouritism in the 1,100m Thrifty Allen Handicap, thus giving Javed khan his first win of the season. It will pay to follow Southern Lad and Big Brown.
In the concluding event the Elistano Handicap Kiefer proved too good for her rivals. Sandesh had the Imtiaz Sait-ward in handy fourth as Sicily (A.Imran.khan) led the field into the straight. Sandesh, thereafter drove out Kiefer to lead and register a fine victory over the late finishing Divya Shakthi.
