Calcutta: Trainer Neil Darashah stole the show on the fourth day of the Monsoon meeting, reeling off a popular treble.
The ball was set rolling by True Faith (Neeraj Rawal), who dished out a commanding mile victory in the Hovercraft Handicap, leaving Jahzara (R. Vaibhav) chasing in shadows. Darashah struck again in the very next race when Kerrygold (J.H. Arul) produced a rousing late gallop to collar runaway Honey Cake (Md Sameer) in the1,100m Rising Stars Handicap, a No Whip race, making amends for her opening-day failure.
He capped off his memorable afternoon with Enola Holmes (Neeraj Rawal), who justified strong support in the 1,400m Vajra Handicap, holding off the spirited Wonderful (R. Vaibhav) in a stirring finish.
The feature, the Calcutta Juvenile Sprint, turned out to a mere formality with just two runners. Aashay Doctor’s star colt Pantazi (Trevor Patel) coasted home at the expense of stablemate Star Pride, clocking an impressive time to further cement his status as a top-class sprinter.
Drama unfolded in the 1,400m Betbricks7 Play and Win Handicap, where Trevor Patel once again delivered the goods, this time astride Arti Doctor’s Main Street. The filly edged past Patrick Quinn’s favourite Snowpiercer (Ashhad Asbar), who once again flattered only to falter, while the ever-consistent King Of Mafia (Imran Chisty) finished close behind.
Earlier, B. Mahesh’s Winsangel (Imran Chisty) kicked off the day with a pillar-to-post success in the sprint, brushing aside the challenge of a heavily-backed NRI Fantasy (Ashhad Asbar) in a close finish.
