Calcutta: The Narredu brothers, Rajesh and Suraj, set the track ablaze with a dominant performance at the races held here on Thursday.
The six-event card was nothing short of a Narredu masterclass. It all kicked off with Multi Success storming to victory in the 1,400m Ich Dien Handicap. In the same race Aashay Doctor’s Cortado ran a gutsy forward race and is definitely the one to watch.
The drama escalated in the very next race. With Aldila withdrawn, the battle boiled down to just two—Casha and Asagiri. It was a thrilling duel, but Asagiri timed his run to perfection, dashing past the favourite Casha (Trevor Patel), who had attempted an all-the-way win.
The Narredus weren’t done yet, Super Sapphire extended their winning spree with a powerful encore in the Tokaido Express Handicap, marking their third triumph of the afternoon.
But the true showstopper was A Star Is Born, who bounced back in spectacular fashion, clinching the Indian Gold Vase in style. A change in riding tactics worked wonders, delivering an emphatic victory.
The opening race had its own share of fireworks, trainer Sabeel Shariff’s duo—Lahina and I Smell The Danger — drew heavy support. Favourite Lahina (Vishal Bunde) delivered a flawless pillar-to-post victory, with her stablemate hot on her heels all the way.
The grand finale was nothing short of heart-stopping. In a breathtaking blanket finish, three strong contenders lunged for glory. Trevor Patel’s superior riding made the difference, as he piloted Patrick Quinn-trained Superlative to victory by the slimmest of margins—just a nose ahead of Gimmler and Go For the Moon.
The Narredu brothers left an indelible mark on the races, with Rajesh’s astute placing and Suraj’s brilliant horsemanship.
