Mirra upsets in the Derby

 Trainer Arjun Mangalorkar's 8/1 shot, Mirra (Antony Raj-up), scored an easy victory over Pesi Shroff's 5/2 course favourite, King's Ransom (P.S. Chauhan) in the cash rich 2,400m Indian Derby here on Sunday.

Mumbai: Trainer Arjun Mangalorkar's 8/1 shot, Mirra (Antony Raj-up), scored an easy victory over Pesi Shroff's 5/2 course favourite, King's Ransom (P.S. Chauhan) in the cash rich 2,400m Indian Derby here on Sunday.
  Ridden in check; until the final turn jockey Raj faced a strong challenge from the favourite, inside the final furlong. However, he managed to score, helping himself and his trainer their first Mumbai Derby win.
  Trainer Malesh Narredu's Wall Street (Akshay Kumar) placed third while the RCTC challenger, Imperial Power, brilliantly ridden by Y. S. Srinath, was a good fourth.
  Incidentally, all the four places in the Derby were occuppied by horses bred at the Usha stud farm.
