Calcutta: Vijay Singh trained Jake superbly ridden by Hindu Singh claimed the Wolf777 sponsored Calcutta Gold (Grade ll) here on Saturday.
Jake was freely available at 10s and over as betting centered around Patrick Quinn's champion three-year-colt Imperial Power, southern challengers A Star is Born and Sea Lion too had their supporters. Hindu bought Jake with a well timed run to nose out Imperial Power, A Star Is Born who was third three-fourth length behind. However,  Imperial Power was not at all disgraced in defeat while A Star is born lives to fight another day.
The day belonged to champion trainer Vijay Singh who saddled  a four winners. The young trainer Suraj Shaw, too, led in a well backed double and Hindu Singh was the lone jockey to score twice.
Day's opener saw only four juveniles facing the starter. Vijay's Gael (Hindu Singh- up), the odds on favourite ,won the race in a common canter from stablemate Money Talks (C.S.Jodha -up).
The lower division of the Wolf777 Mid-December Handicap, saw another odds on favourite from Vijay's yard, Regency Smile (Imran Chisty), scoring effortlessly from So So Special. In the same race, Yuvi finished a faraway third.
The upper division of the race witnessed Suraj Shaw trained , western India import , Weronika (P.Surya) showed a clean pair of heels to her eight rivals from the start. Whispering Grass finished second, without threatening the winner and Mount Reno finished third.  The last start impressive runner Bread and Butter graced the wrong end of the field for most part of the trip.
Aashay Doctor trained Cape Tanaros completed a hat trick of wins, in the Wolf777 Sprint handicap over 1200m.Neeraj Rawal had the top -weighted dark bay colt behind By the Bay (Sujit Paswan-up) from the start and after a ding-dong battle down the straight the Tanaros  got the better of the long time leader by half a length. The market fancy Black Pearl (Hindu Singh-up) was out-paced in the early part of the race and he could only manage to finish third. Perhaps a longer trip will be more to his liking. Cape Tanaros can repeat in his present form.
Only four runners faced the starter for the 2000m Wolf777 Register Play & Enjoy Cup  for horses in the highest class. The neatly handicapped Oasis (Akshay Kumar-up) improved upon his last run to get the better of Stockbridge (Neeraj Rawal-up).
The concluding event saw the Suraj Shaw trained last start winner Cold Pursuit easily recording his back-to-back win from Whistle Blower, Rimel finished a late third in the race, and thus giving young trainer a well deserved double for the day. Circle of love and D My Heart made no show.
The Royal Calcutta Turf Club has got into a strategic partnership with WOLF777, one of the foremost and most successful Gaming and Entertainment Companies in the world as sponsors of the Five Classics, The Calcutta Gold Cup and the entire race day being served up on the New Year 's Day at the race course, which is the biggest Sporting cum Social event of the year in the city.
