‘Dr.’ is not just a tag, it is a treasure trove which is earned with scrupulous commitment, pragmatic dealing with the pressure and consistent steps towards the goals. Then comes your first step- National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), we call it a competitive exam, where you will “save your skin” to secure a seat for yourself in a medical college.

From learning Life Science through Biology to dealing with chemical reactions in Chemistry, then you see yourself in the pool of mathematical calculations and application of formulas- Yes! It is Physics and you cannot ignore it! All you need is a good conceptual understanding of the underlying principles and formulas, proper practice and planning to select the chapters is all you need to avoid losing marks here. Here are some tips to make Physics a strength for a Medical Aspirant for boosting your NEET score:

Develop Problem Solving Skills - A shot in the Dark. More you solve the question, the more you will understand how to reach the answer. All you need is the continuous preparation and only your zeal to get into the direction of your goal can showcase you the path and it is numerical solving especially in the case of physics. So, get in that tough zone and solve more and more questions to get into the roots of the problems and surely it will provide you with heightened confidence.

Focus on important topics which can be easily taken out from the previous year questions, some of the such topics are Mechanics, Electrostatics, Magnetism, Optics, and Modern Physics. These topics carry a significant weightage in the exam and giving more practice to the questions coming from these chapters will boost your understanding with a better chance for you to get the college you want.

Now you see your NCERT- it is not just a book especially for NEET exam it is that primer layer which will always act like a base and similarly for understanding the Physics concepts it is not just about memorising formulae and equations; it is more about understanding the underlying concepts and NCERT will help you in getting that.

For Physics, create a formula sheet with all the important formulas and concepts. This will help you revise quickly and remember the formulas easily, and your regular revision will ensure that you remember them well.

History repeats itself- have you heard this? Yes it is true history repeats, in NEET the pattern of the question will be the same but yes the examiner will twist the language to give you those goose bump in the examination hall, but then what is the way out- it is your frequent practise of the PYQs is you is desired for your preparation. But never forget to take a mock test because this will help you in identifying your weaker areas so that you can work on them because “A stitch in time saves nine”.

Time needs to be utilised with proper planning so that there is no chance of wasting it. From preparation days to your exam day, a set rule for effective utilisation of it has to be applied because, “Time is of the essence”.

If you show your commitment towards Physics by giving yourself a force i.e. zeal to learn which will surely overcome the friction experienced as failure in solving the numerical, and in the end it will hand you a displacement in the direction of your goal. You have to see how much time you are taking to solve a question, then next when you re-do the same questions decrease the time taken, then take a similar pattern of questions and give yourself less time to solve it. In this you will realise that you are improving your speed with accuracy for physics numericals, which you actually need.

During the exam do not panic at all and first understand the question properly and make sure you understand it before attempting to answer it. Avoid making assumptions or jumping to conclusions, it is better to use the process of elimination. If you are unsure about the correct answer, eliminate the options that are clearly incorrect, and then make an educated guess from the remaining options. It is advised to not to spend too much time on one question and move on if you get stuck, if you are not getting these mind preparation tricks you will understand once you know what you have planned for yourself today.

Remember Clearing NEET without Physics is impossible, you need to include it in your way of success as a power booster. Let its underlying principles get under your skin then you will see how much you are enjoying this subject. One more thing to add here, stay calm and focused because a ‘Dr.’ who knows how to handle the stress will always be a ‘Good Dr.’.
