Food is a universal unifier. Whether it's chocolate choux pastry at a quaint cafe, a heaped plate of gravy chow and chilli chicken, or a nostalgia-ridden home-cooked meal — good food has the power to bring people together from different walks of life and different corners of the world.

Newtown Business Club turned into a melting pot of flavours and culture as celebrities from varied fields participated in the “Vivartana – 2023” -- An International Food Festival Ceremony organised by Subhas Bose Institute of Hotel Management group of institutions . Basically the “Vivartana – 2023” comprised of three main events:- The International Food Festival -- which displayed the many popular and distinct food dishes from America, Europe, Middle East, Oriental, South Asian different continents around the world; The Healthcare Seminar - Eminent Personalities from Hospital Industry exchanged their thoughts and the Cultural events followed by The Fashion Show organised by the Bachelor, Master & Diploma students of Hotel & Hospitality Management, Hospital management, Business Administration, Travel Tourism Management, Fashion Management & Media Science.

Vivartana means “Transformation” according to Sanskrit language was inaugurated by Mr. Subhaprasanna Bhattacharya, Eminent Painter, Mr. Sumit Suri, General Manager, JW Marriott, Kolkata, Mr. Kumar Sobhan, General Manager, Hyatt Regency, Kolkata, Mr. Anil Malawat, Group Director, AMRI, Chef. Vijay Malhotra, Executive Chef, ITC Royal, Kolkata, Prof. Pabitra Sarkar, Eminent educationist, Mr. Prosenjit De, Social Activist, Mr. Rajib Sen, Managing Director, Mrs. Bidisha Sarkar, Group Director SBIHM Group.

Students of SBIHM group were really excited to get the opportunity to interact with renowned personalities like Chefs, Politicians, Film Stars, Social Activists, Eminent Journalists across the state. In this international Food Festival, students displayed the many popular and distinct food dishes with the guidance of SBIHM’s Experienced Food Production Faculty Members which included Chicken Bourgion (France), Pasta Primavera (Italy), Batter fried fish with Tartar Sauce (England), Horiatiki (Greece) are few from Europe. Hot Dog, Burger, Texas Barbeque Chicken, Prawn Cocktail, Nachos with salsa chosen from America (North & South). We took Hummus, Babaghanus, Tzasky, Moroccan fish and Chicken Pita Wrap from the Middle Eastern countries. Thai green curry, Hakka Noodle, NasiGoreng, KhaoSuey selected from Asian Countries and finally from South Asian countries we showcased Kasha mangsho, Shiloni Chicken, Fish Amritsari and Prawn Malai curry. Apart from these main dishes, different desserts like Apple Crumble (Austria), Walnut Brownie (USA), BhatsaMarku (Bhutan), Basbusa (Egypt) and Date Pan Cake (China) were demonstrated in our fabulous desserts counter for our esteemed guests.

“We are delighted to be able to organise this International Food Festival live in Kolkata. It is an occasion for the hospitality fraternity across the world to come together and experience the camaraderie that we have shared,” said one of our 3rd year students.

“This is an unique initiative taken by the Subhas Bose Institute of Hotel Management group of institutions and it feels great to be a part of this event. This is a platform that showcases some of the best international cuisine in Kolkata,” said Mr. Sumeet Suri, General Manager, J W Marriott.

Live music, dance performances and fashion shows organised by the students of SBIHM punctuated this international food festival in the evenings, adding merriment to the munch.
