The Postgraduate and Research Department of Computer Science, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, which celebrates its Silver Jubilee this year, successfully organized eXabyte 2023 on 9th and 10th March, 2023.

The grand celebration of technology was initiated with an inaugural ceremony graced by Dr. Debiprosad Duari, Director, Institute of Astronomy Space and Earth Science (IASES), Kolkata; Rev. Fr. Jeyaraj Veluswamy, SJ, Rector, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata; Rev. Dr. Joseph Kulandai, SJ, Vice-Principal, Department of Commerce (Morning); Rev. Dr. Peter Arockiam, SJ, Vice-Principal, Department of Commerce (Evening); Dr. Charlotte Simpson-Veigas, Vice-Principal, Department of Education; Dr. Tapati Dutta, Dean of Science; Dr. Farhat Bano, Dean of Arts; Dr. Ayan Chandra, Member Secretary, Academic Council; Dr. Partha Pratim Ghosh, Coordinator, IQAC; and, Dr. Romit Beed, Head, Department of Computer Science.

The event commenced through Tagore’s lyrics and tune and playing the theme video for eXabyte 2023, which portrayed the passion and enthusiasm behind the event.

The inaugural ceremony was followed by ‘Trends and Techniques in Computer Science’, a one-day seminar session where distinguished speaker, Dr. Duari, gave insights on technological advancements in the field of astronomy. The interactive session made the students familiar with the technologies of the future and how technology is used in the outer space.

eXabyte 2023 had pan-India participation from various colleges like Scottish Church College, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli and others as it hosted a myriad of events:

  • Codeplay (Coding and Debugging)
  • Brainstorm (Quiz)
  • Byte Tales (Micro Fiction)
  • Verb-O-War (Debate)
  • Webbed (Webpage Development)
  • Em-Bleed (Poster/Digital Art Designing)
  • X-Hunt (Clue Hunting)
  • Digibit (Hardware Circuit Designing)
  • Pitch-to-Rich (Start-up Challenge)
  • Crypt-X (Breaking Cipher Codes)
  • Cube-X (Rubik’s Cube Challenge)

Codeplay and Crypt-X had hundreds of participations as students from various colleges used their analytical and problem-solving skills to crack codes, encrypted messages and solved puzzles. Byte Tales and Verb-O-War witnessed an artillery of words in action. Em-Bleed and Webbed explored the artistic eye, while X-Hunt gave an opportunity to bring out the detective in them. Cube-X saw people racing against the clock to solve the cube before anyone else. Digibit proved that in the present, where technology is ubiquitous, circuits are the ‘new brain’. Brainstorm fuelled the wit and curiosity through inquisitive questions, while Pitch-to-Rich made the judge panel curious about various business ideas.

The closing ceremony witnessed cultural dance and music performances by the students. The Postgraduate and Research Department of Computer Science wishes for the next eXabyte to be grander.
