The Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, and Partnering Hope Into Action (PHIA) Foundation, Ranchi, have embarked on a yearlong partnership to engage students as changemakers and encourage gender equality.

The partnership is aimed at getting XISS graduates to critically question beliefs and values that perpetuate inequality. The students will act as changemakers and initiate meaningful conversation to bring about change. The changemakers will also act as campaign ambassadors in educational institutions.

The students will be felicitated with changemaker certification.

As knowledge partner, PHIA Foundation will help organise workshops or thought-shops and awareness programmes on gender issues for the students. The partnership will also help create a safe space (online or offline) to encourage students to share their experience, question, debate, interact and challenge current gender stereotypes in society and particularly in their surroundings.

“XISS is happy to collaborate with PHIA Foundation with a vision to effectively increase student participation in areas of gender equality and train them to become changemakers,” said Joseph Marianus Kujur, director of XISS, Ranchi. “I am hopeful that this association will immensely benefit students in enhancing their practical skills and knowledge.”

Ranjan, manager partnerships, PHIA, said XISS and PHIA will together create a facilitative platform where young leaders of tomorrow can get an immersive experience to understand the nuances of gender issues. “Under this partnership, PHIA will train XISS students to become changemakers where they shall come out with creative content to reach out to masses and create awareness on the issue.”
