XISS felicitates students with best plans for business and social entrepreneurship

Students of Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneurship at Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, presented drew up plans for selling everything from paper bags and cosmetics to health services and agribusiness or fresh vegetables, along with tech solutions.

Entrepreneurship is taught in programmes of Rural Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management and Financial Management at XISS.

The students with the best business plans were felicitated.

Nisha Oraon Singhmarr, IRS and director of the Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Co-operative, Government of Jharkhand, urged the students to their innovations into reality. “You are not just fulfilling your dreams but of people and society as well. There might be occasions when you face difficulties, then change your plans, not your goals. Entrepreneurs should be creative and energetic and should try to become solution providers,” said.

More than 100 students prepared business plans as part of the curriculum and the top three were selected for felicitation.

From the Marketing Management Programme, Sagun Soren shared a business idea on piggery; Rishav Ankit shared his plan for Vegimall, a mall for local vegetables; and Josephin Voller shared her plan for Dorine Wedding Ceremony, a complete wedding solution provider. From the Rural Management Programme, Riti Shalini Tiru and Kumari Mayuri shared their business plan for starting an initiative on aloe vera consumption in the market, and Gunjan Jain discussed the idea of opening a bakery. Prashant Kumar, Abhinav Kumar Shrivastava and Neha from the Information Technology Programme shared their ideas.

In Social Entrepreneurship, students of the Rural Management Programme, Priti Kumari discussed her plan on increasing education in the Tatisilwai region, while Tanya Baran shared a water conservation plan in Jamshedpur, and Mary Munda highlighted ideas to curb alcoholism respectively.

“XISS is keen on creating job-givers rather than only job-seekers. Entrepreneurship begins with the process of conceptualising ideas and rigorous exercises in creative imagination, creative thinking and mind mapping. We wish to create more such opportunities for them in future as well,” said Ashok Ohol SJ, assistant professor.

“This is a paradigm shift in the concept of entrepreneurship. Positive thinking and converting the negative energy into a positive solution along with innovation and creativity is the key for these budding entrepreneurs. I wish them the best in their lives to make progress and bring a difference in society,” said Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, director of XISS.

Amar E. Tigga, the dean of academics, spoke on the entrepreneurial scenario among XISS alumni; B.P. Mahapatra discussed the ‘Importance of Entrepreneurship’ in present times, and Harpreet Singh from the EDP Cell spoke on ‘Skill Development: The base of Entrepreneurship’. Binit Lakra and Arana Kausar along with the head of Programmes and Faculty were also present during the event.
