Sonipat-based World University of Design (WUD) has introduced a six-month certificate programme in film acting, the first batch of which is set to commence in March.

The programme, headed by veteran trainer for aspiring actors Farrukh Naqi Azmi, is aimed at providing extensive training to the candidates for a career in the Hindi film industry. There are only 25 seats for the course which will be allotted based on merit and personal interview.

Divided into two segments of three months each, the programme will offer intensive training to the students in the first half and then feature them in a film which will be used to launch them as actors in the second half. The film will be produced and distributed by WUD itself. This is a unique offer that sets this course over and above other courses of shorter duration, WUD said in a statement.

The six-month acting course is designed to inculcate a sense of confidence and the comfort level of effortlessly acting in front of the camera in the students. The students will also learn dialogue delivery, master facial expressions, develop good body language and flexibility, develop the essential skills of observation, imagination. They will learn to improvise, master movement with special focus on dancing abilities, and the fundamentals of action choreography.

WUD vice-chancellor Sanjay Gupta, said, “I am extremely thrilled and hopeful to add the course on film acting to our diversified menu of courses. More than that I am exhilarated to have someone as seasoned and skilled as Farrukh Azmi with us. In the past, we have witnessed students showing interest in the domain of film acting and I am very sure the seats will be filled soon.”

Prepared to play his new role at WUD, Azmi said, “I have been training acting aspirants for more than three decades now in India as well as abroad but every time the whole experience feels new to me. Every place has its own dialects, speech formations and a certain way of life. So here I am, keen and waiting to start off the acting journey for new kids.”

WUD is making provisions for their students to be equipped with necessary skill sets like make-up and video editing. The university has assured audition opportunities in Mumbai.
