Data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be added as two new subjects for Class 11 and Class 12 by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE). Students may select only one of the two new disciplines at a time, and they will be available as electives under Set 1 of the Higher Secondary curriculum.

Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are not, however, permitted as elective subjects for students who have one occupational subject.

From May 2 until June 30, 2023, schools who are interested in offering these subjects can submit an application to the council. The request for topic authorization must be submitted in person to Vidyasagar Bhavan's academic division. In the months of June or July, the council will also organise a training programme for the teachers that will last roughly 10 days.
