Sai International Institute of Hotel Management, Chennai, has launched a course in ship catering.

Students who have passed their Class X examinations and love travelling can apply for the one-year diploma course.

The course trains students in professional culinary abilities, ship catering methodologies, US Public Health standards, Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (SCTW), Continuous Discharge Certificate-cum-Seafarer’s Identity Document (CDC) and other documentation required for cruiseline positions.

The premier institute founded by Chef Vinoth Kumar in 2004 and administered under Sai Educational Trust is associated with Alagappa University, Lincoln University Malaysia, and the Government of India. The institute is ISO 9001-2015 certified.

Ship catering serves both cargo and passenger ship passengers. Kitchens and eateries are available aboard ships. The degree of service and facilities provided are determined by the ship's class and the passage rates. There are cruises for every budget.
