The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 49 additional super speciality seats for DM and MCh programmes to be included in the NEET SS counselling process for the academic session 2025–26. The decision follows recommendations made by the first appeal committee after reviewing appeals submitted by medical colleges.

According to the official notification, the newly sanctioned seats will soon be accompanied by Letters of Permission (LOPs), which will be published shortly. Once issued, counselling authorities will be able to incorporate these seats into the ongoing admission process for NEET SS 2026.

The approvals have been granted by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), a key body under the NMC, after evaluating appeals filed under Section 28(5) of the NMC Act, 2019. The move is expected to enhance opportunities for candidates seeking admission to super-speciality medical courses across the country.

The counselling process for NEET SS 2026 is being conducted online by the Medical Counselling Committee. As per the current schedule, registration for Round 2 of counselling will conclude on April 3, while the choice filling window will remain open until April 4.

Following this, the Round 2 seat allotment results are scheduled to be declared on April 7. Candidates who secure seats will be required to report to their allotted institutions between April 8 and April 16 to complete the admission formalities.

The official notice issued by the NMC emphasised that the list of newly approved seats, as validated by the first appeal committee, will be treated as an official document for inclusion in the counselling process. This development is expected to provide additional options for candidates and improve seat availability in highly competitive DM and MCh programmes.
