Mumbai-based edtech start-up PurpleTutor has launched artificial intelligence-driven live classes aimed at benefitting teachers along with students.

While most artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the edtech space look at eliminating teachers, PurpleTutor’s AI tool makes every teacher a super teacher, the company said in a press communique recently.

The start-up, which operates in the skill-building for kids, had raised money from IvyCap Ventures and other prominent investors earlier in this year.

Scaling the platform and bridging the gap between quality delivery of education by teachers and engagement of students have been the primary purpose of the AI-driven live classes.

Gaurav Perti, founder and CEO, PurpleTutor, said “We have spent the initial few months last year on conceptualisation and beta testing. We launched the AI-driven classes from July last year in a phased manner, and now they are in flow.”

According to Perti, the AI piece works in real-time giving inputs to teachers and helping them to take decisions in the best interest of the learner, thereby highly personalising the class experience for the student.

“The traditional model is the classroom approach, and this is followed online too. This is a one size fits all approach. The teacher will provide the same explanation and same exercises to every child, not allowing the child to form a learning path of their own,” added Perti.

The AI piece has been transformational to PurpleTutor’s core proposition and has resulted in massive improvements on all related business metrics and customer ratings of classes have seen a great improvement, said Perti.

On the business front, PurpleTutor is running sizeable operations with hundreds of teachers and over 2,00,000 registered students globally.

Rajat Dhariwal, chief product officer (CPO), who has been a teacher and did his Master’s in AI from Carnegie Mellon University, said, “The AI piece has been designed in such a way that it does what AI is good at. The human element of teachers stays in the classes, giving a never before experience.”
