The 13th edition of the IMR Doctoral Conference (IMRDC) buzzed with research ideas, well-thought critiques and stimulating discussions.

IMRDC is an annual colloquium in management science and associated disciplines, co-organised by IIMB Management Review, the flagship academic quarterly of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore, and the institute’s Office of Doctoral Programme.

The virtual meet, held from January 20 to 22, 2022, was co-chaired by Tirthatanmoy Das, professor of economics and social sciences, and Rajeev R. Tripathi, professor of productions and operations management at IIM Bangalore.

The conference aims to promote research and scholarship opportunities among Indian and international doctoral students in Management Science. It also offers a forum to scholars and academics to interact with students and provide academic feedback, suggestions, and professional development advice.

Professor Alfonso Flores-Lagunes of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University, USA, delivered a keynote address on ‘Does Youth Training Lead to Better Job Quality? Evidence from Job Corps’.

J Ramachandran, professor of Strategy, IIM Bangalore, spoke about building a career in academia.

A total of 75 submissions from top management and social science institutes went through three rounds of rigorous review. Twelve papers were picked for presentation. Each paper saw a dedicated discussant critique the paper presentation and offer comments and constructive feedback.

The IMRDC 2022 Best Paper Award was won by Tanya Jain, a doctoral scholar of Economics and Social Sciences area at IIM Bangalore, for her presentation on ‘Debt contract enforcement and product innovation: Evidence from a legal reform in India’ .

The Best Critique Award for doctoral students of IIM Bangalore was jointly won by Anupama Kondayya of the OB/HRM area and Himanshu Shekhar of the Strategy area.

Professor Haritha Saranga, chairperson, Doctoral Programme, IIM Bangalore, commended the pre-doctoral and doctoral student volunteers for their invaluable support in making IMRDC 2022 a success.

Professor Chetan Subramanian, dean faculty, noted that the award-winning papers at the last two editions of IMRDC had gone on to be published in top-tier journals.

“The IMR doctoral conference is an enabling and nurturing space for relevant and rich research opportunities for doctoral scholars in the country,” said Rishikesha T Krishnan, director, IIM Bangalore, in his valedictory address.
