Law Students of ICFAI University Jharkhand visited district and session courts in Ranchi recently to learn how the courts operate, the varsity stated in a press communique on May 12.
The students were accompanied by faculty members of ICFAI University Jharkhand during the visit. The programme at the court started with an orientation by Ashok Kumar, the registrar of the civil court, and Rakesh Ranjan, secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
They explained to the students the hierarchy and the powers of the courts and the functioning of the DLSA. They also highlighted the importance of mediation centres functioning within the court premises.
Introducing the students to the judiciary officers, Alok Kumar, the head of the department of the Faculty of Law, said, “The purpose of this visit is to get you all acquainted with the filing procedure followed by the different courts established within the premises of the district court.”
Addressing the students, Arun Kumar Rai, the judicial commissioner, said, “I appreciate the efforts of ICFAI University in organising the court visit by the students. It will be of immense help to the students to understand how the courts work.”
During the visit, the students were briefed on the functioning and procedures of the different courts on the premises, which include family court, MACT Court, CBI Court, economic offences court and POCSO Court.
The students also learnt how the certified copies of the cases are kept before and after the disposal of the concerned case and how they can be obtained from the courts. The students also visited the video conferencing rooms and vulnerable witness rooms, situated within the court premises. They had an opportunity to watch live mediation proceedings.
The faculty and students also met Shambhu Agrawal, the president of the District Bar Association, and Sanjay Vidrohi, the secretary of the District Bar Association.
At the conclusion of the tour, Divya Utkarsh, a professor at ICFAI University Jharkhand, proposed a vote of thanks to all the judiciary officers and advocate Mithilesh Kumar Pandey, who coordinated the visit from the district courts.
