Government schools in Tripura shut till 23 April 23 amid heatwave

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday made an announcement declaring that all government schools in the state will remain closed from today, 18 April 2023 till 23 April due to the prevailing heatwave conditions.

The scorching heat may adversely impact the health of the students, stated the Tripura CM in a Facebook post, announcing the closure of all state-run and state-aided schools.

Additionally, he also requested private schools in the state to do the same in view of the prevailing weather condition.

"The heat wave across the state may cause bad impact on the health of the students. In this view, the state government has decided to keep all the government-run and grant-in-aid schools closed with effect from April 18 2023 to April 23 2023," he said in a tweet.

"Besides, the private-run schools have been requested to keep their institutions closed during that period," the CM added. Tripura has 4,226 state-run and state-aided schools with 7.02 lakh students. However, colleges and universities in the state will function as usual, officials said.

The mercury is looming around 37 degrees Celsius in Tripura over the last three days. Rains are unlikely till 20 April, according to weather officials.
