The 98th convocation of Delhi University will be held on February 26 at the Multipurpose Hall of the varsity’s Sports Stadium Complex in New Delhi, the varsity stated in a notification issued on its official website recently.

“It is notified for information to all concerned that the 98th Annual Convocation of the University of Delhi is scheduled to be held on Saturday, 26th February, 2022 from 10am onwards,” the notification on DU’s website stated.

During its 97th convocation last year, the university had become the first institution in the country to award digital degrees to its 1,78,719 students. Later, some other institutions, including the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur conferred digital degrees to graduating students on their convocation ceremony.

The convocation was conducted in a hybrid manner – a mix of online and offline events. However, DU is yet to issue a statement on whether the convocation will be held in-person or in hybrid mode this year.

The notification from the varsity stated that students may follow the University of Delhi’s official website www.du.ac.in to get updates on the convocation.

Last year, over 156 medals and 36 prizes were conferred to students by Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, the chief guest of DU’s convocation in 2021. Over 600 doctoral degrees were also awarded in person during the ceremony.

DU will also celebrate 100 years of its establishment in May, and the varsity has allocated a fund of Rs.10 crore for the centenary celebrations.

“While celebrating the centenary year, we, at the University of Delhi and its constituent and affiliated Colleges, forming an integral part of the University community, may envisage programmes and constructive events which create ample memorable moments for all of us to rejoice not only during the centenary year but also for the next century. We may rededicate ourselves towards the cause of furthering higher education in our country to help all-round growth and development of the University in particular and academic milieu of the nation at large,” DU vice-chancellor, Yogesh Singh, said.
