The University of Delhi (DU) hosted its 98th convocation on February 26, 2022, with defence minister Rajnath Singh as its chief guest.

Given the current situation with COVID-19 and MHRD guidelines, parents or guests were not allowed with candidates inside the multipurpose hall at the Delhi University Sports Stadium Complex. It may be noted that in 2021, amid the pandemic, DU held its convocation virtually and awarded digital degrees.

In his address to the audience, the minister expressed his gratitude to have been invited as the chief guest and said being a prior education, researcher and education minister, it is a matter of pride to be part of such an occasion. “If there is one thing I can say about Delhi University, it is that the institution has left an indelible mark around the world. I also believe that the university is celebrating its 100th year in two months,” he said, going on to congratulate the faculty, and all the students who were being awarded degrees at the convocation.

Singh also went on to talk about the value of education in society and the role educators play in our lives and urged everyone to remember that India was once a global leader across various fields, including science and innovation. “As we all work towards a new India, we must not forget our legacy, our history and our culture,” he said.

The convocation is being streamed on http://du.ac.in.
